Root Causes of Disease

A Holistic Guide to Understanding Disease Origins

Discover you root cause…

Walking through a cancer journey changes the way you see health, the body, and healing. It opens your eyes to a deeper question: Why did this happen in the first place? Many people are given diagnoses but not answers. They are offered treatments but not always understanding. This guide is meant to help you look beyond symptoms and begin exploring the root causes of disease.

The Kitchen Sink Analogy

Imagine your kitchen sink is overflowing and flooding your entire kitchen. Water is everywhere. So everyone grabs buckets and starts scooping water, running it outside, and coming back for more. At first, it feels helpful… But eventually, everyone gets exhausted. Weak. Burnt out. Because no matter how fast they move—the water keeps coming.

Those buckets? They’re like temporary symptom relief.

But here’s the part most people miss: No one is turning off the faucet.

Turning off the faucet = addressing the root cause. Until you do that, you’ll keep fighting the same problem over and over again.

Symptoms vs. Root Causes

Symptoms are signals—not causes. The body is communicating, not failing.

Example #1: Inflammation Is Not a Root Cause

Inflammation is often blamed as the cause of disease, but it is actually the body’s response to something going wrong. It is a signal—not the source. Like a fire alarm, it alerts you something is wrong. The real question is: What is causing the inflammation?

Example #2: Leaky Gut Is Not a Root Cause

Leaky gut is often treated as the cause of many health issues.

But just like inflammation, it is actually a result of something deeper going wrong.

Leaky gut simply means the intestinal lining has become damaged or permeable.

The real question is: What caused the damage in the first place?

Possible root causes may include:

  • Mold exposure

  • Bacteria and/or parasite

  • Food sensitivities

  • Toxin overload

  • Chronic stress

  • Vaccine Injury

Leaky gut is the symptom—not the source.

Just like a cracked wall in a house, you can patch it temporarily…
but if the foundation is shifting, the problem will keep coming back.

7 Common Root Causes of Disease

1. Toxic Burden

The body is constantly exposed to toxins—from the environment, food, water, air, and everyday products. This includes:

  • Heavy metals (e.g., mercury, lead)

  • Mold exposure

  • Environmental toxins (e.g., pesticides, plastics)

  • Chemical overload from personal care or cleaning products

Over time, these toxins can accumulate faster than the body can eliminate them. This total toxic burden can weaken immune function and increase susceptibility to disease. When the body cannot properly detoxify, toxins build up and evenutally overflow/take over the body.

2. Chronic Infections

These may include:

  • Parasites (Recommended parasite kit LINK)

  • Bacteria

  • Viruses

  • Fungal overgrowth (like candida)

Many infections can remain hidden or dormant, slowly stressing the immune system over time. Infections are often a result of toxic burden overload.

3. Gut Dysfunction due to Mold Exposure

The gut plays a central role in health, but factors such as mold exposure can cause symptoms that may include:

  • Leaky gut

  • Imbalanced microbiome

  • Poor digestion

  • Skin issues such as rashes, eczema

When the gut is compromised, it can trigger immune reactions, nutrient deficiencies, and systemic stress.

4. Nutrient Deficiencies

The body requires vitamins and minerals to function properly. Deficiencies in nutrients like:

  • Vitamin D

  • Magnesium

  • B vitamins

can impair healing, weaken the immune system, and disrupt cellular function. It is really important to test your minerals. (See Testing Resources at the bottom of this guide)

5. Chronic Stress (Emotional & Physical)

Stress is not just mental—it is biochemical. Long-term stress can:

  • Suppress the immune system

  • Disrupt hormones

  • Increase inflammation

Unprocessed emotional stress can also manifest physically in the body.

The Role of Trauma: Childhood trauma and unresolved emotional pain can keep the body in a constant state of “fight or flight.” This can weaken immune function, prevent proper healing, and keep inflammation elevated.

Healing the Nervous System

Helpful resources include:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a therapy that helps the brain process and release traumatic memories that may be “stuck.” Instead of reliving the trauma, it helps the brain reprocess the experience so it no longer triggers the same emotional and physical stress response. Many people experience a reduction in anxiety, fear, and stress after working through trauma with EMDR.

  • ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy)
ART is a gentle, fast-acting therapy that uses eye movements to help reprogram how distressing memories are stored in the brain. It allows the body to release emotional triggers without needing to talk through every detail of the experience. Many people notice relief in just a few sessions.

  • Counseling or therapy

  • Prayer and meditation

A Faith-Based Perspective

Healing can also come through surrender. Jesus reminds us that His burden is light. Letting go of fear, control, and past wounds and surrendering them to Him, will bring a supernatraul peace that goes beyond our understanding.

Encouraging Scripture (NIV):

  • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

  • “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:30

  • “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” — 1 Peter 5:7

  • “Do not be anxious about anything… And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:6–7

  • “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

6. Hormonal Imbalances

Hormones regulate nearly every system in the body. Imbalances (thyroid, cortisol, estrogen, insulin) can create widespread dysfunction and contribute to disease progression. When hormones are off, the body can’t properly regulate energy, metabolism, mood, or repair processes and symptoms begin to show up in very specific ways.

How Hormonal Imbalances Show Up:

  • Fatigue → Often linked to adrenal dysfunction (cortisol imbalance) or low thyroid function

  • Hair loss or thinning → Can be related to thyroid issues, low progesterone, or elevated androgens

  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight → Common with insulin resistance, cortisol imbalance, or thyroid dysfunction

  • Sleep issues → Often tied to cortisol rhythm disruption or low progesterone

  • Anxiety or mood swings → Can be influenced by cortisol, estrogen dominance, or blood sugar instability

  • Low energy and burnout → Frequently connected to adrenal fatigue patterns and chronic stress

  • Irregular cycles or PMS symptoms → Often related to estrogen and progesterone imbalance

These symptoms are not random. They are signals that the body’s internal communication system is out of balance. Advanced testing (such as the DUTCH test) can help uncover deeper hormonal patterns that may not show up on standard labs.

7. Oral Health (Hidden Infections in the Mouth)

The mouth is deeply connected to overall health. Hidden infections in the mouth can become a constant burden on the immune system. Common contributors include:

  • Root canals

  • Cavitations

  • Wisdom tooth extraction sites

  • Old dental work

Root canals can leave behind dead tissue where bacteria thrive—creating hidden infections the immune system cannot fully access. Many experts believe oral infections play a major role in chronic disease. In our journey, a 3D Cone Beam scan revealed hidden infections that were missed on standard X-rays. This became a critical piece of the puzzle.

Extra Steps:

Conclusion

This may feel overwhelming and that’s okay. Testing can be expensive, and many of these labs are not covered by insurance. That can be frustrating. Take a deep breath. You don’t have to do everything at once. Start with one step. One test. One decision at a time. Healing is not a race. Discovering root causes takes time, it took us two years. Stay calm. Stay grounded. Keep moving forward.

Thank you for being here. Let's keep diving deep together. Your health is worth the investigation!
